Biography:
Jennifer K. Whipple is a Partner at Herum Crabtree Brown. Ms. Whipple specializes in employment law and represents both private and public employers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies in a broad range of employment matters including harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour issues, retaliation and discrimination based upon gender, race, national origin, sexual orientation, age and disability.  In addition, Ms. Whipple frequently advises clients regarding compliance with applicable state and federal employment and workplace laws and she assists businesses and agencies with development of employee handbooks and policies related to harassment, wage and hour issues, workplace violence, drug and alcohol testing, privacy, discipline, termination, family and medical leave, and public access and accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Ms. Whipple also assists clients in preparing employment cases for mediation and arbitration, in addition to more traditional forms of dispute resolution. 

As a complement to the depth of her specialty in employment law, Mr. Whipple adds breadth to the Litigation Practice Group at Herum Crabtree Brown through her extensive litigation experience. Ms. Whipple has litigated in courts throughout the United States and internationally in diverse contexts including consumer, antitrust and employment class actions, commercial litigation, education law, government and agency liability, premises liability, environmental law, and real estate law. 

Ms. Whipple has been asked to lecture on employment topics in a professional setting,

including the Association of California Water Agencies.

Ms. Whipple was born in Berkeley, California but has lived in the Central Valley for most of her life, including in the Modesto area and in Chico. She currently resides in Stockton with her husband and son, and in close proximity to her parents and four siblings, all of whom reside in the Central Valley.

Ms. Whipple graduated with honors from the University of California, San Diego in 1994, with a double major in Art History and Criticism and Women's Studies with an emphasis in Political Science.  While at UCSD, Ms. Whipple worked as a legislative intern in the office of a United States Senator.

Ms. Whipple received her law degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Law in 1998.  While attending law school, Ms. Whipple worked for the California Attorney General in the Environmental, Natural Resources and Land Use Division and in the Criminal Appeals, Writs and Trials Division. In these positions, she gained experience writing appellate briefs and analyzing federal and state legislation. Ms. Whipple also worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Legal Writing course at the University of California, Davis, School of Law and she authored an article regarding “Drug Court Perspectives,” which was published in the Women Defenders Journal in the Spring of 1998. While attending law school, Ms. Whipple also served as the Co-Chair of the Women's Law Caucus and she earned recognition as an International Semi-Finalist at the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition held in Florida in 1996.

Ms. Whipple is also a graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s advanced trial advocacy course.  

Ms. Whipple is the current President of the Leadership Stockton Alumni Association and she has served as a Director and Executive Committee Member and Personnel Chair for the Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Joaquin County since 2002. Ms. Whipple has also served on the Advisory Board of Court Appointed Special Advocates ("CASA") of San Joaquin County since 2003. She worked with a local Judge to assist in drafting the San Joaquin County Rule of Court regarding CASA. Ms. Whipple is a member of the California State Bar Association and the San Joaquin County Bar Association and the Labor and Employment Section of the California State Bar Association.

Ms. Whipple has been admitted to practice before all California state courts as well as the U.S. Federal District Court, for both the Eastern and Northern Districts of California.
